Ensemble

CORDARTE Ensemble was founded in Cologne in 1998 with ambition of playing early music on authentic instruments expressively and thus reviving them. In the formation of violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord/organ, Daniel Deuter, Heike Johanna Lindner and Markus Märkl formed the core of CORDARTE from 2003 to 2021. Markus Märkl left the ensemble in 2022, since then Daniel Deuter and Heike Johanna Lindner have been working together with various keyboard players.

In ist work the ensemble focuses on the trio sonata of the 17th century – a period wich produced brilliant and first-class music in Germany, England, France and Italy. In addition, the ensemble also presents programmes with vocals, a second violin or increased continuo instrumentation with lutes or harp. Their work concentrates mainly on rarely-performed repertoires. Acting as ‚treasure hunters’ in this field, CORDARTE bring to light works of art wich have wrongly fallen into oblivion, and makes them known again to a wider public. Thorough research is matched by lively performances wich have been impassionedly received by both public and press at renowened festivals in recent years. Among others, CORDARTE were guests at the Bach Weeks of Thuringia, the Franconian Summer, the Days of Early Music of Herne, the Handel Festivals of Halle and Göttingen, Bad Hersfeld festival, the Residence Weeks of Munich, and St. Gallen Festival.

Numerous concert recordings and co-productions have been made over the past years, among others with DLF Cologne, WDR Cologne, Hessian Radio, SWR and Bavarian Radio. In addition, CORDARTE has documented part of ist previous work with eight CD productions. In its latest work,  CORDARTE was supported by, among others, Degussa Foundation, Art Foundation NRW as well as by the Cultural Department of the Municipality of Cologne. CORDARTE is a founding member of the Early Music Society of Cologne.
